Is it stupid to love a map of the train lines?
I also have a favorite stop, it is City Hall.
I miss home; fighting the evening crowd with my best friends in tow, complaining about a 6 minute for a train (I didn’t know how lucky I was, I have to wait 30 minutes for a bus here in Indiana), the little triumphs of catching the last train home.
I love City Hall because of the memories made at locations near the train location. Circa 2006, the fuzzy chairs at the Esplanade with my little motley crew, never thinking that we would one day grow up and grow apart. (We did). Baybeats every year at the waterfront, singing to Plainsunset and WGB, suffocating in the moshpit of AVA’s show. Sharing long kisses at random pavements and our little spot with an ex lover. Suppers at HK Cafe with my friends complete with crappy dimsum and milk tea in a metal cup. Peninsula plaza for some sketchiness and knock-off band tees. Hanging out at my mom’s place. The Padang and the night-time skies. A bad quarrel right outside Raffles City with said ex. (The morning after was okay, the month after wasn’t). Walking City Link (2005 till 2012) with my best friend @tinytractor (when we still lived in the same country). Speakers that blast Jimmy Eat World and The Starting Line. Watching plays and concerts at the Esplanade. Racing up the Marina Square steps, piggy-style competition. (I will never be 15 again). Lusting over every item at Topshop yet knowing that I can never afford to purchase all of them. Missing the last train home. Missing the last train home down the North-East line because I sent you down the East-West line. Sitting at any random empty area with my friends, giddy with laughter. How “Let’s meet at 6pm at City Hall always involved at least one of us arriving at 7.30pm instead. They added more lines to our train network. I grew up a little.
Writing this chunk of words just made me so nostalgic and homesick.
